Let me paint you a picture.
You’re sitting at dinner with friends. Maybe it’s been a long day—work, kids, laundry, trying to remember if you drank water (oops ๐ ). You glance at the menu, already doing mental math:
“Can I have that?”
“Did I already eat too many carbs today?”
“Do I need to ‘be good’ tomorrow if I eat this?”
Meanwhile… someone across the table says, “I wish I could order that, but I’m on keto.”
And just like that, the spiral begins.
Friend, if you’ve ever felt trapped in that cycle—constantly thinking about food, second-guessing your choices, chasing the next thing that will finally “fix” your body—this post is for you.
Because today, we’re breaking up with fad diets. For good.
Let’s just say it out loud: fad diets are really good at marketing themselves.
They promise:
And in a world that thrives on instant gratification… that’s hard to ignore.
Lose 10 pounds in 10 days?
Sign me up.
(Except… not really.)
Here’s the truth no one wants to admit:
Fad diets work… until they don’t.
You might lose weight. You might feel in control for a little while. You might even think, “This is it. I finally figured it out.”
But then life happens.
You eat the bread.
You skip the workout.
You go on vacation.
You get tired of saying no.
And suddenly, the weight comes back. Sometimes more than before.
Cue the shame spiral.
Let’s get real for a second.
The issue isn’t that you “lack discipline.”
The issue isn’t that you “did it wrong.”
The issue is that fad diets were never designed to be sustainable.
They rely on:
And your body is smarter than that.
When you under-eat or restrict, your body goes into survival mode.
It starts conserving energy.
Holding onto fat.
Messing with your hormones.
Spiking stress (hello, cortisol ๐).
So when you do start eating normally again?
Your body is like:
“OH THANK GOODNESS, FOOD IS BACK. LET’S STORE EVERYTHING.”
And just like that… you’re back where you started.
Or worse.
This one hits deep.
Because I hear it all the time:
“But keto worked for me before.”
“I lost weight on Weight Watchers.”
“I just need to get back on track.”
Friend… let me lovingly say this:
If you have to keep going back to it… it didn’t actually work.
I know that might sting a little. (Okay, maybe a lot.)
But think about it:
If something truly worked, wouldn’t it last?
Wouldn’t it feel sustainable?
Wouldn’t it fit into your real, everyday life?
Instead, you’re stuck in this exhausting cycle:
Diet → Results → Burnout → Regain → Repeat
That’s not success.
That’s survival.

Let’s zoom out for a second.
Because this isn’t just about food.
Or weight.
Or carbs vs. no carbs.
This is about your mental, emotional, and spiritual health too.
How much time are you spending thinking about:
What you shouldn’t eat
When you’re allowed to eat
How to “fix” what you ate
Hours a day? Be honest. That’s not freedom.
Scrolling Instagram like:
And suddenly, your worth feels tied to your body.
Oy vey.
Instead of listening to your hunger, fullness, and energy…
You’re following:
You stop trusting yourself.
Okay, this is where we go deeper.
Because this isn’t just about food behavior—it’s about where you’re placing your trust.
When you’re constantly chasing diets, you’re essentially saying:
“I trust this plan more than I trust my body… and more than I trust God.”
Whew. That’s a hard truth.
But also, a freeing one.
Let’s talk about something we don’t hear enough in the health space:
Food freedom is a faith journey.
Because at the root of this struggle is often a lack of trust:
Maybe your body feels like it’s “failed” you.
Maybe you’ve walked through health struggles, trauma, or body image pain.
So what do we do?
We hand over control to diets.
To influencers.
To anyone who promises a solution.
But true healing starts when you shift that trust back where it belongs.
In James 1, we’re told:
If we ask for wisdom in faith, God gives it generously.
Not conditionally.
Not reluctantly.
Not after you lose 10 pounds.
Freely.
But here’s the key:
We have to actually ask—with intention.
Not just quick, distracted prayers while scrolling Instagram.
Not just “God, help me” in passing.
But real, surrendered, present moments with Him.

Alright, let’s get practical.
Because I know you’re thinking:
“Okay Brittany… but what do I actually DO?”
I got you ๐
Grab a notebook. (Yes, really.) ๐
Start noticing the thoughts running through your head:
Write them down.
No judgment. Just awareness.
For 24–48 hours, ask yourself:
How much of my day is spent thinking about food or my body?
Be honest.
Because awareness is the first step toward freedom.
Instead of following rigid rules, begin asking:
This isn’t about perfection.
It’s about relearning how to listen.
This is the game-changer.
Set aside intentional time—yes, like an actual appointment.
We call these “health appointments with the Lord.”
Sit with Him.
Pray.
Surrender your body, your fears, your struggles.
Not rushed.
Not distracted.
Fully present.
Because transformation doesn’t happen in chaos.
It happens in connection.
Here’s the part no one puts on Instagram:
Healthy habits aren’t flashy.
They don’t promise:
They look like:
And yes, it can feel slow.
But six months from now... that’s where the real transformation happens.
Let’s be honest.
This approach doesn’t feel as exciting.
It doesn’t feel “sexy.”
You don’t get instant results.
And sometimes you wonder: “Is this even working?”
But friend…
This is the work that actually lasts.
This is how you:
If you’ve been stuck in the diet cycle for years…
Hopping from plan to plan…
Feeling frustrated…
Blaming yourself…
Hear this: You are not the problem. The system is.
And you are allowed to step out of it.
You don’t have to figure this out alone.
