Have you ever looked in the mirror and thought…
“What is happening to my body?”
Maybe your jeans fit differently.
Maybe your weight shifted after starting medication.
Maybe your hunger cues feel completely out of whack.
Or maybe—if we’re being really honest—you just don’t feel at home in your body anymore.
And suddenly, you’re stuck in this exhausting tug-of-war:
Friend, if that’s you… take a deep breath.
You're not broken.
Your body has not betrayed you.
And you are not alone in this.
Let’s talk about what’s actually going on—and how to move forward in a way that honors your body, your mind, and your faith.
Let’s just call it like it is—when your body changes in ways you didn’t ask for, it can feel deeply personal.
Like your body turned on you.
Like you lost control.
Like something isn’t “right.”
But here’s the truth most women don’t hear:
π Your body isn't betraying you. It's communicating with you.
Read that again.
So often, especially in diet culture, we’re taught to override our bodies:
And then… when our body pushes back, we panic.
But your body has been speaking all along. We just weren’t taught how to listen.

Okay, quick science moment—but stay with me, because this matters a lot.
Your body has an internal alarm system (aka your nervous system). It’s constantly scanning for safety or danger.
When it senses a threat—whether that’s:
…it activates a stress response.
You’ve probably heard of these:
Now here’s where it gets important…
When your body is stuck in this stress state, it impacts things like:
So if you’re thinking…
“Why can’t I just feel normal around food again?”
“Why is my body doing this?”
It’s not random. Your body is responding to stress—physically, emotionally, and even spiritually.
Let’s go deeper for a second.
Because for many women, this isn’t just about weight or food.
It’s about identity.
You might be grieving:
And that grief is real.
But here’s the tension I see so often with my clients:
“I want to heal my relationship with food… but I also miss my old body.”
Whew. That one hits.
And instead of acknowledging that grief, many women try to:
But healing doesn’t happen through ignoring your emotions.
Let’s talk about something that doesn’t get enough airtime in Christian spaces:
π Your feelings are not the enemy.
Yes, we don’t want our feelings to drive the bus.
But pretending they don’t exist isn't it either.
Even Jesus experienced emotions like grief, anger, and overwhelm.
He felt deeply… and lived anchored in truth.
So what does that mean for you?
It means you can:
…and still choose to anchor your identity in Christ.
Both can exist.
Okay, let’s address something that confuses a lot of women:
You start trying to reconnect with your body, and suddenly your body image gets WORSE.
Whaaaat?!
Here’s why:
When you’ve been disconnected (or numbed out), your brain is quiet.
But when you start tuning in, you open the door to everything.
It can feel like a flood.
And your first instinct might be:
“NOPE. Shut it down. Go back to what felt safer.”
But that “safe” place was actually just a disconnection.
Let’s have a gentle-but-honest moment.
A lot of food rules and body control behaviors come from a desire for:
π Safety
π Certainty
π Control
And honestly, that makes sense.
If your body has felt unpredictable…
If life has felt overwhelming…
If you’ve experienced stress or trauma…
Of course you’d want something to hold onto.
But controlling food or your body is often just an illusion of control.
And it comes at a cost:
Not exactly the freedom you’re craving

Alright, so where do we go from here?
Because I know what you’re thinking: “This sounds nice, Brittany… but how do I actually DO this?”
Let’s break it down.
Instead of:
“Ugh, why do I feel like this? I shouldn’t feel this way.”
Try:
“Hmm… what’s going on in my body today?”
Ask yourself:
This is where awareness begins.
This one is simple—but don’t underestimate it:
π “What do I need for nourishment right now?”
And no, nourishment isn’t always food.
Sometimes it’s:
Healing isn't linear.
Some days you’ll feel:
Other days, spiraling. Emotional. Overthinking everything.
Both are part of the process.
You’re not doing it wrong—you’re doing something new.
This one is huge.
Because your internal dialogue directly impacts your stress levels.
And your stress levels impact your body.
So instead of: “I look terrible today.”
Try: “I’m having a hard body image day… and that’s okay.”
That shift matters more than you think.
Let’s keep this real practical for a second.
If you’re:
…your body is going to feel stressed.
Which means:
Start with the basics:
It’s not glamorous—but it’s foundational.

If you’re sitting there thinking: “I don’t trust my body at all.”
I hear you.
That’s a really vulnerable place to be.
And instead of forcing trust overnight…
Start here:
π “I don’t trust my body yet… but I’m willing to start listening.”
That willingness is where healing begins.
Let me lovingly remind you of something:
Your body is not your enemy.
Your body is not your identity.
Your body is not a problem to fix.
Your body is a vessel.
A vessel created by God.
A vessel that carries you through your life.
A vessel that—yes—sometimes feels confusing or frustrating.
But still… a vessel worth caring for.
If everything we talked about feels like a lot (because it is), start here:
Seriously.
Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do, is meet your physical needs first.
Friend, if this blog post hit close to home, I want you to know:
You don’t have to figure this out by yourself.

If you’re in a place where:
That doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It means you’re human.
And the fact that you’re here, reading this and seeking something different is a big deal.
So today, let’s not aim for perfection.
Let’s aim for one small step:
π Curiosity over criticism
π Nourishment over punishment
π Connection over control
And most importantly…
Let’s keep inviting Jesus into the process.
Because true freedom isn't found in a number on the scale.
It’s found in Him.
