Ever feel like your brain has 37 tabs open… and at least 12 of them are about food, your body, or what you “should” be doing differently?
You’re not alone.
In fact, one of the most common things I hear from the women I work with is this:
“I just can’t turn my brain off.”
The constant thoughts about food.
The mental tallying.
The body checking.
The “I should eat this… no wait, I shouldn’t…” spiral.
It’s exhausting.
And here’s the thing no one tells you:
It’s not just about food.
It’s about mental clutter.
And friend… that clutter? It’s costing you peace.
Let’s talk about how to clear it—practically, simply, and with Christ at the center. π
Let me paint a picture.
Imagine your kitchen counter.
You walk in, and it’s covered in random stuff—mail, snacks, your kid’s water bottle, that one Amazon return you keep forgetting…
Now imagine trying to cook dinner in that space.
Chaotic. Stressful. Overstimulating.
That’s what’s happening in your mind.
Mental clutter is essentially a buildup of “open loops”—unfinished decisions, unprocessed thoughts, and repeated mental noise that you haven’t dealt with yet.
Or, as we talked about on the podcast:
π Mental clutter = delayed decisions.
Whaaaat?!
Yep.
Every time you think:
You’re adding another “item” to your mental countertop.
And when it comes to food freedom and body image healing?
That clutter multiplies fast.

Let’s get real for a second.
When your brain is overwhelmed, guess what it does?
It defaults.
And for many of you, that default looks like:
Sound familiar?
Here’s why:
When your mind is cluttered, you don’t have the capacity to think intentionally.
So instead of choosing freedom…
You fall back into what feels familiar.
Even if it’s not actually helping you.
Oy vey.
Before we go any further, I need you to hear this:
π You are NOT responsible for the first thought that pops into your head.
But…
π You ARE responsible for what you do with it next.
That is a game-changer.
Because it means:
You’re just… human.
And your brain needs a system.
Alright, let’s get practical.
On the podcast, we walked through a simple 5-step process that you can use to declutter anything—your home, your schedule… and yes, your mind.
Let’s break it down.
This is where you get everything OUT of your head.
And I mean everything.
Grab a notebook and start writing:
Don’t filter. Don’t organize yet. Just dump.
π Think of this like clearing off your mental countertop.
Pro tip: If you’re Type A like me, you can start grouping into categories as you go (food, work, family, etc.).

Okay, this is where it can feel a little… spicy.
Because now you’re asking:
And listen—I know that word “purge” can feel triggering.
So let’s reframe it:
π This is about choosing what serves you.
Some options here:
And when it comes to thoughts?
Try this:
If not… it might not belong.
This step is SO underrated.
Because here’s what most women do:
They think, “I’ll deal with that later…”
…and then never actually deal with it.
Instead?
π Give it a home.
Examples:
Even worry can have a “home.”
Seriously.
You can literally say:
π “I’m going to worry about this at 3pm today.”
And then redirect your brain when it pops up earlier.
Wild, right?
This is where things start to feel lighter.
Because now?
You’re putting limits on the mental clutter.
Just like a drawer or a basket sets limits in your home…
You can set limits in your mind.
For example:
If it overflows?
That’s your cue to revisit the process.
Not a sign you failed.
This is the part most people skip.
And then they wonder why nothing “sticks.”
Friend… this is a practice.
Not a one-time fix.
You’re going to have new thoughts tomorrow. And the next day. And the next.
So instead of aiming for perfection?
π Aim for consistency.
Tie this to something you already do:
Even 10–15 minutes can make a HUGE difference.
Oh girl. I hear you.
This is so real.
Because sometimes the fear isn’t the clutter…
It’s what might come up when you slow down.
Here’s what I want you to remember:
π You don’t have to go in unprepared.
Start with a plan:
And most importantly…
π You are not doing this alone.
Let’s take this deeper for a second.
Because this isn’t just about organizing your thoughts.
It’s about surrendering them.
Scripture tells us to “take every thought captive” (2 Corinthians 10:5).
But let’s be honest…
That’s a lot easier said than done.
Here’s a reframe I love:
π Instead of trying to control your thoughts…
π Invite God to sit with you in them.
Picture this:
You’re sitting with your journal.
Your thoughts are messy. Unfiltered. Real.
And instead of judging yourself?
You say:
“Lord, can You help me sort through this?”
No shame.
No pressure.
Just presence.
And that?
That changes everything.

Let’s dream for a second.
What if…
Because that’s what’s on the other side of this work.
Not perfection.
But peace.
When you practice this regularly, you start to experience:
And maybe most importantly?
π You trust yourself again.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed right now, let me lovingly say this:
You don’t need to overhaul your entire brain today.
You just need to start.
Set a timer for 15 minutes.
Grab a notebook.
Walk through the steps.
That’s it.
Because progress doesn’t come from doing everything…
It comes from doing something consistently.
If this resonated with you and you’re like,
“Okay Brittany… I need help with this…”
I’ve got you.
