What in the world is a
"go-to move"?
To put it simply, a "go-to move" is your first line of defense against disordered or unhealthy behaviors.
When you have a thought or experience an urge to engage in a behavior you know is not pointing you towards your purpose or goals, you don't need the stress of trying to figure out what to do in that moment.
It's extremely difficult to make a healthy, rational decision when you're in a heightened emotional state.
You need to HAVE A PLAN for how to handle it before the temptation arises.

Let me explain in a word picture... (cue Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks!):
When Dirk (pictured above) is ready to shoot a basket but Serge Ibaka is in his face blocking everything he tries to put up, what does he do? He uses his "go-to move"... the classic fadeaway (usually on one-leg, because that's how amazing he is at it!).
He practices this move over, and over, and over, and over again, ANTICIPATING that he's going to get his shot blocked. Why does he use a fadeaway? Because it creates space between him and his opponent so that he can get an open shot! He positions himself in such a way that he's able to create a greater potential of reaching a goal (literally!).
He doesn't think in the moment, "Oh my gosh, what am I gonna do? Ibaka is too tall and too fast! How am I ever gonna get a shot?!" He's prepared. He knows his next move before he's overtaken, and he's equipped to overcome!

Now back to YOU! It's time to figure out your "go-to move". What could you write down on a notecard or sheet of paper, or maybe place in front of you at the table or on the wall to redirect your thoughts to something else? Get SPECIFIC!
Find a special scripture, quote, lyric, image, or word of encouragement that lifts your spirits and gets your mind back on track. Now, when it's time to take your disordered thoughts captive (2 Corinthians 10:5), you have an immediate place to turn to redirect those thoughts without having to try and figure something out on the spot.
And there you go! Now it's up to you to find YOUR "go-to move".
